In the summer of 2014, we undertook the very first rocking for charity trip and traveled from San Francisco California clear to Barre Vermont, stopping at charities along the way to give free rides on our giant rocking unicorn. We stopped at Ronald McDonald Houses, Big Brother/Big Sister, equine therapy foundations, schools of the profoundly disabled and for those with Down's Syndrome as well as numerous other groups. Our mission was to do something fun for the staff, volunteers, clients and client families in addition to raising local awareness for the invaluable work these organizations perform.

We had no corporate sponsorship and did this on our own, just two of us and one 1200 pound rocking unicorn. It was an amazing journey and one we hope to repeat. The giggles and squeals from our riders were absolutely priceless. We did not ask for a cent from the groups themselves as this is something we wanted to give them as a gift.

The trip itself was expensive, mainly due to record high fuel costs. We raised money through an Indiegogo campaign as well as through sales of trip tshirts and tank tops, bumper stickers and a raffle. We came in under budget, but still had a deficit of over $3000.  We are immensely grateful to everyone who supported us, but we continue to work on decreasing that deficit, as our own pockets are not nearly as deep as the font of philanthropy that flows from our hearts. Any funds raised from kind folks sponsoring this virtual walk of mine will go toward that shortfall, and should this walk manage ti exceed our shortfall, any overage will be dinated to the Shriners, which was the original designee for any excess donations over our actual costs on the Rocking for Charity tour.
