Getting Started

  • How can I set up a mission?

    It's easy.
    Click on the "Start My Mission" button.
    On the planning page you can click on the map a start point.
    Then you can create a mission path anywhere you want by clicking on the map.
    Your distance will be updated automatically.
    You can snap to roads if you want your path to follow a road or you can go in straight lines between each point.

  • Are there any costs?

    On the My Virtual Mission free account you get to go on a single solo mission for free. Upon signing up you get a free 2 week trial of My Virtual Mission Premium which enables additional features and benefits. After this trial your account will automatically revert to the free account and you will not be billed unless you decide to continue with My Virtual Mission Premium.

    If you mission is a fundraising missions then there are transaction fees collected on each sponsorship that is made

  • How can I enter a distance towards my mission goal?

    When you create a mission you can enter a distance towards your mission goal by:

    1. Entering it on your mission page when you are logged in.
    2. Downloading our smart phone app for iPhone or Android and entering your distance into the app.
  • Can I change my mission path and description along the way?

    Yes, just log in and go to your mission page and click "edit mission". There you can edit almost any aspect of your mission.

  • Do I have to fundraise with my mission?

    No, you do not have to fundraise with your mission if you don't want to. However, the feedback we have received is that dedicating your mission to a charity or cause gives your motivation to keep going a major boost!

  • Can more than one person join together and go on the same mission?

    If you are a group of people wanting to do the same mission you have a few options:

    1. You can each set up a separate mission that is along the same path.
    2. You can create a single mission with a shared login and each person can post their own distance updates to that one mission, leaving their name in the comments box to show who has completed each distance.

    We are working on developing this concept more and making it an inbuilt function to have multiple people on the same mission, we welcome your feedback on this!

Fundraising with your mission

  • How do I fundraise for my own cause?

    When you create a mission you can easily set up your own cause. All you need to do is enter the name of the cause, a bit of a description, a target fundraising amount, the currency you want to accept sponsorships in and your email address that you associate with PayPal in order to receive funds directly into your PayPal account.

  • How do I fundraise for a pre approved charity/cause?

    Fundraising for one of our pre-approved charities/causes is quick and easy.
    Just select the charity/cause from the drop down menu when you create your mission. You can also enter a target amount and select a currency that you prefer to display.
    Note: Some charities only accept sponsorship in specific currencies

  • Are there any fees on the sponsorships that my mission receives?

    Yes. While using My Virtual Mission can be free of charge for users, we do charge a modest admin fee on sponsorships received to cover the transaction costs, site upkeep, website growth and maintaining a profitable business model. We are very upfront and transparent with our fees and there are no hidden charges.

  • How does payment work when someone makes a sponsorship?

    The person who wants to make the sponsorship visits your fundraising mission page. They enter the amount they want to sponsor and then complete the transaction through PayPal with either a guest payment (credit card) or by using their PayPal account.

    The payment the goes directly to the recipients PayPal account (own cause) or directly to First Giving for registered US charity causes.

  • Do I have to fundraise with my mission?

    No, you do not have to fundraise with your mission if you don’t want to. However, the feedback we have received is that by dedicating your mission to a charity or cause gives you motivation to keep going a boost!

  • Are there any restrictions on what I can fundraise for?

    Most honest and genuine causes are fine. We do reserve the right to disable fundraising and/or the users mission if we believe that there are grounds to do so. Our platform is for all ages, genders, races and religions and we want our community to be clean, child friendly, and safe for all.

    Types of causes that we would consider disabling are:
    Anything of an explicit nature.
    Causes that are inflammatory, generally offensive or discriminatory.
    Causes that we get many genuine complaints about.

  • Can I add fundraising to my mission after I start?

    Yes. Just click on "Edit Mission" from inside your mission page when you are logged in and then add either a pre-approved charity/cause or enter in your own cause.

  • Do I need a PayPal account to enable sponsorship for my mission?

    If you are fundraising for one of our pre-approved charities/causes then you don’t need a PayPal account as each sponsorship will go directly to that charities/causes via First Giving.

    If you are fundraising for your own cause then you do need a PayPal account. You can quickly and easily set up a free PayPal account either before or after setting up your mission.

  • What currency can I accept sponsorships in?

    If you are fundraising for one of our pre-approved charities/causes then you will be given a selection of currencies to choose from based on the currencies that the charity/cause has chosen to accept.

    If you are fundraising for your own cause then you can chose what currency to accept from any one of the following.

    Australian Dollar - AUD Canadian Dollar - CAD
    Euro - EUR New Zealand Dollar - NZD
    Great British Pound - GBP United States Dollar - USD

    Please note: For your own cause, the currency that you chose must be enabled in your PayPal account. Most PayPal account holders will already have their main currency enabled, but you can choose to add other currencies if you wish.

  • Can someone in another country still sponsor my mission?

    Yes. Lets say you chose to accept US Dollars as your currency but your great aunt Beryl lives in Australia and wants to sponsor your mission. When she completes the transaction in Aussie dollars her sponsorship will be automatically converted into US Dollars for you. Thanks aunty Beryl!

  • Is there a minimum amount that people can sponsor my mission?

    The minimum amount is set at 5 units for each base currency. E.g. $5, £5, €5

Sponsoring a mission

  • What payment methods do you accept sponsorships in?

    Credit card and/or PayPal.
    Payments can be made either with or without a PayPal account.

  • When I sponsor a mission, what happens?

    When you sponsor a mission your credit card or PayPal account will instantly be debited the amount you chose.

    There are no fees to make a payment

    You can make payments to any mission regardless of their currency. PayPal or First Giving handles the currency conversion.

    Once the transaction has been made you will have the option to leave a message and whether you want your name to show up as the sponsor on the mission page or not.

    In the case of a mission fundraising for an approved charity, the charity will receive the funds via First Giving who handle the processing and payments to US charities.

    In the case of a mission fundraising for their own cause, the payment will go directly to the missions owners PayPal account.

    All sponsorships are final and refunds are unavailable.

  • What happens if the person doesn't complete their mission and I have sponsored them?

    The payment still stands.
    Sponsorships are made on the basis of a good faith expectation of what the person will achieve. They are not linked to the actual completion of the mission.

    A useful example is that sponsors of a professional athlete still pay them even if they fail to complete a race or win a competition. If they make a habit of not completing a race then sponsors will soon lose interest.

  • Is my payment information safe?

    Yes. We use PayPal to complete all transactions. PayPal are one of the worlds leading providers of credit card processing.

    We do not collect or store any credit card details on our website. All transactions take place on via PayPal or First Giving with an approved or declined message being sent back to us after each payment.

  • Is there a minimum amount that I can sponsor a mission?

  • Can I get a refund?

    Unfortunately there are no refunds offered. All sponsorships are deemed to be final.

  • How do I know if the mission I'm sponsoring is for a pre approved charity/cause or an own cause?

    If a mission is fundraising for one of our pre approved charities/causes then there will be a   symbol next to the fundraising description on the mission page. Clicking on that symbol will take you to a page that will show you all other missions that are fundraising for that pre approved charity/cause.

  • Do I need a PayPal account if I want to sponsor a mission?

    No necessarily. You can make a payment on the PayPal check out without having to have a PayPal account. This is called a "guest" payment. (Guest payments may not be available for all missions)

  • What currencies do you accept?

    Each mission only accepts a single currency.

    Anyone in the world can make a sponsorship to any mission regardless of the type of currency. PayPal First Giving or handles the currency conversion during the transaction.

    The currency is chosen by the person who set up the mission

    Some charities only allow sponsorships to be collected in specific currencies. The ones that they accept will be shown when selecting the currency you want to use.

Pre-Approved Charities/Cause

  • How can our charity become a pre-approved charity/cause on My Virtual Mission?

    Becoming an approved charity or cause on My Virtual Mission allows your charity/cause to receive sponsorships through our platform from our users and their supporters.

    We endeavor to make the sign up process as seamless as possible. Please email at charity (at) myvirtualmission.com and include your charity/cause name and details, link to your website and a contact name, email and phone number and we will be in contact with you.

    It is free to become an approved charity/cause but we reserve the right to accept or decline applications at our sole discretion.

    Please note: You do not need to become an approved charity or cause in order to fundraise with My Virtual Mission. Becoming an approved charity or cause simply means that our users are able to pre select a charity/cause from the menu when they sign up. Alternatively you can enter your own cause to fundraise for.

  • What are the advantages of becoming a pre-approved charity/cause on My Virtual Mission?

    Becoming a pre-approved charity/cause allows other people to dedicate their mission to your cause and raise funds for your charity/cause by collecting sponsorships when they undertake their mission. The sponsorships that people make to your cause go directly and instantly into your account minus our fees.

    This presents a big opportunity for your cause to open up a passive income stream from people dedicating their missions to your cause.

    You can encourage your existing database to do a mission on My Virtual Mission or anyone in the world can dedicate their mission to your cause.

  • What is a Pre-Approved Charity/Cause?

    A pre-approved charity/cause is simply a charity or cause that we have pre loaded into our system and is available to anyone who is setting up a mission to be able to select as the cause they want to raise funds for by collecting sponsorships as the complete their mission.

  • Are there any requirements to become a pre-approved charity or cause?

    We do have certain criteria in order to become a pre-approved charity/cause.

    1. Your cause must be legitimate, be operational and show evidence of being established such as a having a website, a phone number
    2. Your cause must appeal to a broad range of people. E.g. A small local church group or sports team would not be accepted as a pre-approved charity/cause because it is only relevant to a smallish group of people. These types of causes can still fundraise by choosing "own cause" when setting up a mission.

Group Missions

  • What is a Group mission?

    A group mission is a mission that more than one person is completing at the same time

  • Why types of group missions are there?

    There are two types of group missions

    All For One

    • Complete the mission together as a group!
    • Each member logs their own distance
    • Every time a distance is logged the groups position advances along the mission path
    • Great for really long distance missions
    • Less competitive but more united with everyone contributing to the overall goal

    Each To Complete

    • Everybody has to complete the full mission
    • Everybody has to complete the full mission
    • Each member logs their own distance
    • Every time they log a distance their individual position advances along the mission path
    • Each member can see where they are in relation to other members of the group
    • Great for a competitive environment where people can battle it out to reach the finish first

    Note: A mission type can’t be changed once a mission has started so choose carefully!

  • Can I change my solo mission into a group mission?

    No – But you can start another mission if you want

  • Does it cost anything to do a group mission?

    Being part of a group mission requires a user maintains a My Virtual Mission Premium subscription. More information about premium can be found here

  • What can our group mission fundraise for?

    Group missions can fundraise for virtually any cause whether it be a private cause such as a sports team or for one of our built in charity causes.

  • How to I manage the participants of my group mission?

    The person who sets up the mission can invite, approve, decline and delete participant from their group mission.

    This person is called the group mission admin.

    People who see your mission can request to join from the mission page

  • How does an invited user join a group mission?

    By going to the mission page and scrolling to the bottom and clicking the "join mission" button

  • How many people can go on a group mission?

    There is no maximum number of people that can join a group mission, however please contact us if your mission is likely to have over 200 people on it and is "each to complete" so that we can allocate more resources to ensure it still runs nice and fast for you.
