Trail Raiser "On the Go" Highlights

Start your mission and fundraise for the ECTA and the CMHA-NL.

What is a mission?
A mission involves the completion of a physical challenge and setting a fundraising goal.
The physical challenge is an exercise-based activity, a mission focused on hiking or walking or running or using a wheelchair.
The ultimate mission (challenge) is to actively move along the full length of the 336 km East Coast Trail, or its equivalent, in 3 months.
The suggested target fundraising goal for each participant is $250; you decide what is feasible and achievable for you.
You decide on your mission, the number of kilometres to be completed, your fundraising goal and the location, on or off the East Coast Trail.
Fun and healthy. Get Fit, physically and mentally, and raise funds at the same time.

FAQ

Q) Do I have to hike every single path on the East Coast Trail?
A) Definitely not! The idea is to travel the length of the Trail - or 336 kilometres. Whether you do this on the Trail, or off it is up to you. Whether you hike every single path and community walk once, or you complete Stiles Cove Path (15.1 km) twenty-two times is completely up to you!

Q) I don’t live near or have access to the Trail, can I still participate?
A) Absolutely! You don’t have to actually be on the East Coast Trail to complete the challenge. Have a route in Corner Brook you like? Or wishing you could travel to Newfoundland this year but you’re stuck in Ontario? Use the path in your community or neighbourhood to complete the challenge while fundraising for these worthwhile causes!

Q) I finished the mission as an individual or team and we want to continue tracking our progress, can I/we?
A) The Challenge was set up to see you complete the 336KM length of the East Coast Trail. Once you hit that goal, My Virtual Mission will no longer track additional distances. This is simply because that is the finish line. You don't hike a 10km path to see how long it'll take you to do 20km.

You may have joined Strava for the first time to use it with this Challenge. Strava is an activity tracker, you can continue to use that to track your continued distance.

Q) Do I need to register all my teammates at once?
A) Nope. Each person can indicate their team when signing up, and join that on their own.

Q) What is Strava? Do I need it?
A) Strava is a social-fitness network that can be paired with numerous fitness/activity trackers (Garmin, Fitbit, Apple, etc). Your Strava account can then be paired with our event host website/app to automatically sync and move you along the Trail Raiser On the Go Challenge. Click here to find out if your favourite activity tracking app syncs with Strava.
If you don't have Strava, or there are issues, you can just log into the website/app to manually add your distance and activity type.

Q) This seems like a lot of distance?
A) Over the three months, it averages ~3.7kms/day. It should be a challenge to most individuals, if it was easy we wouldn't call it a challenge!

Q) Won't a team finish faster?
A) There is no award for the first place! This is a Challenge, so tackle it however you want over the 3 months days. Want to thruhike and finish it all at once? Great! Better yet, get the thru-hiker on your team! Remember that we’re doing this to support two worthwhile charities, as you hike, run, walk or use your wheelchair, remember to also raise funds to support their causes.
